Vitopel, a Think Plastic Brazil partner, participates in a circular economy project focused on environmental responsibility and sustainability alongside the companies Avery Dennison and Wise

Think Plastic Brazil

Vitopel, a partner for over 15 years of Think Plastic Brazil, a portfolio of solutions for the converted plastic products sector in the process of internationalization for target markets, carried out through a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and INP (Brazilian Plastic Institute), participated in an unprecedented project that promotes the circular economy and collaborates with the sustainability goals of its customers and brand owners.

The initiative is in line with Vitopel’s essence of carrying out integrated work with all links in the production chain, in the search for innovative solutions that value environmental responsibility and more sustainable structures. For Carlos Moreira, Brazilian Plastic Institute Executive Director & Think Plastic Brazil CPO, Vitopel “demonstrates a genuine concern in the search for sustainable plastic solutions, positioning itself at the forefront of initiatives such as circular economy and sustainability”.

In this scenario, Vitopel, together with Avery Dennison, a leading company dedicated to the manufacture of functional and labeling materials, and Wise, a recycler and supplier of post-consumer recycled material, contributed to the development of the first self-adhesive solution for labels and tags with PCR content, which bears the Fasson® rPP White NTC 10% PCR brand.

This product became a reality with the application of V.Planet PCR film, which is part of Vitopel’s portfolio and is produced with a percentage of post-consumer resins, guaranteeing the same performance as conventional BOPP films.

Collaborative work was one of the hallmarks of this project, which brought together the three companies. Avery Dennison sought out Vitopel for its expertise in Vitopaper, a product that also combines sustainable attributes and is in sync with the initiative. Wise was involved in supplying the necessary raw material and, as a company certified in PCR resins, its participation was essential in all stages and in the various tests that were carried out, contributing to the development of the most suitable resin for film production.

During the project stages, strict control conditions were required in the production equipment to avoid cross-contamination, a precaution that is related to the fact that Vitopel is a company certified in the FSSC 22000 system, which aims at a safe product, and in ISCC Plus, for the sale of sustainable BOPP films produced from circular and renewable resins.

Vitopel carries out intensive research and development work in the area of treatment and use of PCR in its films, and V.Planet PCR is the result of this investment, being a film that uses post-consumer resin and is part of the V.Planet line, a new generation of technologies

that interact within sustainable environments through the reduction of the use of non-renewable resources and the possibility of reuse, supported by the circular economy.

Aimed at self-adhesive labels and tags, V.Planet PCR was the solution for Fasson® rPP White NTC 10% PCR. The material uses 10% post-consumer recycled polypropylene in its composition, an attribute that helped Vitopel reduce its carbon footprint in the production of the film. The product guarantees excellent performance in labeling items such as beverages, food, beauty products and home care products, with the same quality as virgin PP fronts, a sustainable differential, capable of boosting circularity and contributing to closing the cycle of use of materials, reducing environmental impacts.

According to Aldo Mortara, Vitopel’s commercial and development director, this solution is the result of the three companies’ cooperation in sustainable projects aimed at integrating the chain through the circular economy, which are the pillars that lead to the V.Planet BOPP film line. Furthermore, Mortara emphasizes that all links in the chain, such as retailers, the packaging industry and brand owners, can count on Vitopel to develop new or similar partnerships with the application of the V.Planet line.
