Innovation was developed by researcher Sandra Regina Marchi, from UFPR, and will be available to the brazilian converted plastic industry.
The 2026 edition of Color Trend, a color trends guide produced to guide decisions by professionals in the converted plastics industry in Brazil, will have the shades indicated by architect Marcelo Rosenbaum translated into See Color language, a color reading method developed by Brazilian researcher Sandra Regina Marchi (Federal University of Paraná – UFPR), as a method of including visually impaired people and people with color blindness.
Color Trend was created and is produced annually by Think Plastic Brazil, a portfolio of solutions for the plastic-converted products sector in the process of internationalization for target markets, carried out through a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and INP (Brazilian Plastics Institute). The publication has already been signed by Walter Rodrigues, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Jum Nakao and Gabi de Mattos.
See Color is a tactile language method (with visual representation for color-blind people) that enables visually impaired people (blind or visually impaired) to access color information. It uses both high relief and dotted and dashed representations, with a simplified Braille base and inspiration from Color Theory, allowing for rapid learning of reading (about 20 minutes) and in a universal way (regardless of language). Its functionality and ease are due to the basis of Color Theory, which considers three primary colors (red, yellow and blue) and secondary colors (orange, green and purple), in addition to neutral colors (black and white).
The reading is done by touching the fingertips to interpret the symbols, as well as by seeing dots and dashes, both in a clock format (time), with each position indicated on the circle defining a group of colors and each number of dots its intensity. The representation system allows See Color to be included directly on products or on small stickers, ensuring its use by Brazilian converted plastic companies, through a partnership between the researcher and Think Plastic Brazil.
“The adoption of See Color in the 2026 edition of Color Trend is aligned with one of the premises of Think Plastic Brazil, which is to bring innovation, design and sustainability to the Brazilian converted plastic sector through creative actions that connect us to the main players in the global market”, says Carlos Moreira, Brazilian Plastic Institute Executive Director & Think Plastic Brazil CPO.
