Think Plastic Brazil, a portfolio of solutions for the converted plastic product industry in the internationalization process for target markets, carried out through a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and INP (Brazilian Plastic Institute), is supporting the 5th edition of the Brazilian Plastic Conference (CBP), one of Brazil’s largest meetings of the plastic converting industry.
In this edition, CBP – The Plastics Paradox – brings to the country the researcher Chris DeArmitt, one of the world’s leading experts, in addition to other national and international speakers. The hybrid event is an initiative of the SustenPlást Institute and will take place on September 12, in São Paulo, with live broadcasts on Zoom and YouTube.
According to Carlos Moreira, Executive Director of INP and who oversees projects at Think Plastic Brazil, CBP demonstrates the interest of the Brazilian plastics industry in providing more information and connections between market players. “The partnership between Think Plastic Brazil and CBP is extremely important in fostering knowledge in the converted plastics industry in Brazil. Throughout the event, we will even show the release video of the next World Plastic Connection Summit, which will take place in April 2025 and is already open for registration,” he says.
With the topic “The Plastics Paradox”, the edition will bring together major national and international experts to clarify and present scientific information about plastic material in various segments of the society. The event’s star attraction is Chris DeArmitt, PhD, the world’s leading expert in plastic materials, who will visit Brazil for the first time. The edition is named after his book The Plastics Paradox.
DeArmitt graduated in Chemistry and Physics, courses that provided him with the necessary scientific basis so that he could deeply understand the structure and behavior of materials. Thus, he followed his advanced studies, including a doctorate (PhD) in Materials Science, focusing on the study of polymers, plastic materials, and their industrial applications. President of Phantom Plastics LLC, DeArmitt has a career dedicated to the development and enhancement of plastic materials, contributing to innovations that improve material durability, functionality, and sustainability. His work is based on scientific data and clarifies the purpose of plastics in modern society and helps formulate more effective policies regarding the environment. His works together with companies such as HP, Apple, Exxon, P&G, iRobot, Eaton, Total, and Disney.
The event’s program also has the presence of big names in the industry, such as Ronald Sasine, Albano Schmidt, Cassia Nunes, Fabiana Quiroga, Gustavo Alvarez, Joaquim Caracas, Larissa Ogera D’Otaviano, Simara Souza, among other experts. With the participation of world-renowned experts, the 5th CBP promises to be a significant milestone in the debate on plastics in modern society. “The meeting aims to address the challenges and opportunities that plastics represent, in addition to being a reference in the search for scientific and proven information on the subject,” says Alfredo Schmitt, president of the SustenPlást Institute and creator of this initiative. According to Schmitt, the expectations for the Brazilian Plastic Conference are high. “Talking about plastics is extremely necessary and enlightening and is exactly what we seek for CBP. We want to promote a space for dialogues and discussions on the circular economy, expanding knowledge and access to information about the paths and solutions that plastic can bring,” he adds.
